Forbes Hare: Cayman Islands

Forbes Hare: Cayman Islands

Overview

Forbes Hare is an independent offshore law firm practising British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Nevis and Anguilla law. Our core practice areas are dispute resolution, insolvency, corporate, finance, investments funds and private client and trust law. Our team comprises approximately 50 people across offices in the Caribbean (the main offices are in the Cayman Islands and BVI), with additional representative offices in London and Singapore (not practising English or Singaporean law). Forbes Hare works with associated trust, corporate and fiduciary service businesses in New Zealand, the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands.

Our disputes team specialises in complex litigation in the Caribbean. The majority of our contentious work involves, in one way or another, disputes involving structures and entities in the BVI, Cayman Islands, Nevis and Anguilla. Much of our work has cross-border elements. The firm also assists and handles cases involving other common law Caribbean jurisdictions where we have lawyers locally admitted and relationships with local firms. We also undertake arbitration work in the Caribbean and before arbitral tribunals elsewhere (e.g. LCIA, ICC), usually in matters involving offshore entities.

Forbes Hare has a broad-based corporate insolvency practice, and acts for creditors, debtors and office holders in a variety of insolvency and restructuring situations. The team has considerable experience in the use of insolvency remedies in fraud and asset tracing exercises, and in shareholder disputes. It is also experienced in complex insolvencies of regulated entities such as (for instance) advising and acting for liquidators of insurance companies and collective investment funds. The work is often international.

We have an experienced, partner-led corporate and investment funds practice. We advise clients globally on M&A; corporate finance and public equity transactions; private equity; cross-border joint ventures; all types of asset financing transactions including real estate, aircraft and shipping; the establishment of, and ongoing services to, collective investment funds, and general corporate and commercial work. Our local teams advise on all types of commercial and residential real estate work in the Caribbean.

Forbes Hare’s trusts and private client team advises institutional trustees, corporates, families and private individuals from offices in the BVI, the Cayman Islands and New Zealand (we do not advise on New Zealand law). We advise on all manner of trusts-related issues, including commercial trusts, succession and estate planning, charities and asset ownership issues. Many of our disputes lawyers have considerable experience of contentious trusts litigation.
