TerraLex Members Bring International Dispute Resolution Expertise to China
TerraLex member firms Hylands Law Firm, Morris Nichols Arsht & Tunnell LLP, RPC, and Lalive recently collaborated on a series of three International Dispute Resolution Conferences in China, held in Urumqi, Beijing, and Zhengzhou between September 7 and 12. The events brought together TerraLex lawyers from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Switzerland to share practical perspectives on cross-border disputes, compliance, litigation, arbitration, and international investment.
The series began in Urumqi on September 7, where Michael Liu of Hylands Law Firm discussed compliance challenges and strategies for Chinese companies expanding internationally, while Eric Schwartz of Morris Nichols addressed pursuing claims and enforcing judgments in the United States. At the Beijing conference on September 11, they were joined by Jonathan Cary of RPC in the UK, Samuel Hung of RPC in Hong Kong, and André Brunschweiler of Lalive. Topics expanded to include British litigation practice and the practical advantages and success factors of Swiss arbitration for Chinese enterprises.
The final conference, held in Zhengzhou on September 12, brought the international perspectives of the TerraLex speakers together with insights from local government, arbitration, and legal leaders. Samuel Hung also participated in a roundtable addressing investment structure design, cross-border compliance, and the selection of dispute resolution mechanisms.
The Zhengzhou event alone attracted more than 200 participants, including representatives from government authorities, arbitration and bar associations, in-house counsel from more than 40 companies, and local lawyers. Participants highlighted the value of TerraLex's global reach and strong local member firms as a platform through which Chinese lawyers can quickly access trusted legal expertise across jurisdictions and coordinate international support for their clients.
The three conferences are an excellent example of TerraLex collaboration in action—bringing together expertise from multiple member firms and jurisdictions to strengthen relationships, share knowledge, create visibility for our network, and demonstrate how TerraLex can support clients navigating complex cross-border matters.
