EU Update – Legal Insights from Europe's Capital | October 2026 Edition #5

October 21, 2026

Keeping pace with the EU’s evolving regulatory environment is increasingly important for businesses operating across Europe. The latest EU Update, prepared by Gecić Law’s EU Law practice in Brussels, provides practical insight into three developments with implications for companies operating in or doing business with the European Union’s 27 Member States and 450 million consumers.

The fifth edition examines proposed changes to extended producer responsibility (EPR) rules, including potential relief for EU-based SMEs while requirements would remain for non-EU producers; the European Commission’s scrutiny of KKR’s acquisition of NetCo, highlighting the continuing importance of accurate information in EU merger filings even after a transaction has been cleared; and significant changes to EU air passenger rights, including new requirements for airlines around compensation claims, baggage, rerouting and booking practices that will apply from October 2027.

With a focus on the practical implications behind regulatory change, the EU Update helps TerraLex members anticipate issues that may affect clients, start conversations around emerging risks and opportunities, and draw on the network’s European expertise when more specific advice is needed.
